About Laser Engraving
Laser engraving is an art. Most people think that you can turn on a computer throw a piece of wood under the laser and come out with a finished product. This is just not the case...
The first step is to prepare the wood. From a salvage tree this means, cutting, planning, sanding, and shaping to the desired size and shape. Depending on the type of wood, some are hard, and some are soft, this will dictate on how receptive it is to the laser burning. Then you select a design to burn into the wood, load it into the computer and convert it to specified format. Calibrate the machine to size and dimensions of the work of art. The challenging part refining the image to enhance the contrast of positive and negative space of a 2-dimensional image into a 3-dimensional design. Adjusting the speed, strength, and quality of the laser to match the level of detail in the design and the softness of wood.
Burning to0 hot and too fast or too slow will result an image that is not only burned too deeply into the wood, the image will be blurred and spotty.
